Soil Week Webinar - Sweden

Soil monitoring in Sweden - what does it mean?

As part of the Soil Week 2026 initiative, Lund University and LU Land are hosting a webinar in Swedish* on April 22, 8:30 - 9:30 CET, to explore how soil data is collected and used in Sweden.

Soil is a vital resource for food, nature, and the climate. To protect it, we need reliable data and monitoring. The webinar will provide an overview of national Swedish programs as well as European ones that track soil health in forests, farms, and other types of land. Experts will explain how these programs work, what data they collect, and how this information is used to make better decisions for land use.

The webinar will bring together experts and stakeholders from:

Lund University
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
✅
Swedish Board of Agriculture

Speakers:

Johan Stendahl, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

Malin Jägsell, Swedish Board of Agriculture

Hanna Friberg, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

The key topics that will be covered during the session are:

How are Swedish and EU programs structured and coordinated?

What types of data are gathered, and how can the public access them?

An introduction to Sweden's soil inventories for different soil types.

A presentation on the new European Soil Monitoring Law.

A closer look at the environmental monitoring program, Biological Diversity in Arable Land.

The first half of the webinar will be dedicated to presentations, while the second half will be a Q&A session.

More information on the event can be found on Lund University’s website. You can register (by 20 April) here, as the webinar is open to everyone.

*The event will be held entirely in Swedish.
