An estimated 1,000 participants from around the globe attended the 3rd Global Soil Biodiversity Conference to discuss the solutions to reversing soil degradation.The event took place on 13-15 March 2023 in Dublin, Ireland.
The third edition of the conference was hosted by Teagasc - Agriculture and Food Development Authority and the University College Dublin, which also served as the conference venue. The conference had the theme "Science as a basis for the sustainable use and conservation of soil biodiversity", and provided an opportunity for scientists, policy makers, regulators, environmental agencies, conservationists, land user managers, and other stakeholders to discuss the latest updates on soil biodiversity research and knowledge. The conference aimed to promote sustainable use and conservation of soil biodiversity.
SOLO was represented at the conference by the project coordinator Dr. Carlos António Guerra from the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv), as well as representatives of Pensoft Publishers - the project partner in charge of communication and dissemination.

At Pensoft’s booth, participants were able to access SOLO’s promotional materials such as stickers and the project’s brochure. Dr. Carlos Guerra represented SOLO at the conference with a presentation on Global hotspots for soil nature conservation in the session on Threats to Soil Biodiversity & Protection of Soil Biodiversity.
Overall, the event was a fantastic forum to provide the latest updates on soil biodiversity research and knowledge for scientists, policy makers and all other stakeholders in the sustainable use and conservation of soil biodiversity.
