The EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” defines the conservation of soil organic carbon stocks as one of its eight objectives, addressing the importance of maintaining, or in many situations increasing the soil organic carbon stocks.

In response to this, SOLO's Think Tank  "Soil organic carbon stock" has produced a roadmap called "Preliminary assessment of the knowledge gaps to conserve and increase soil organic carbon stocks". This document aims to identify and enumerate key knowledge gaps related to the conservation and increase of soil organic carbon stocks
