Healthy soils provide a wide variety of ecosystem services, which are also essential to human health, such as biodiversity, nutrient cycling, sustainable plant production, natural pest control, good water quality, water retention, carbon storage and erosion management. Soils are estimated to harbour about 59% of Earth’s species and possibly more.
SOLO's roadmap "Preliminary assessment of the knowledge gaps to soil pollution and restoration" addresses the complexity of the issues involved in soil pollution and reflects on their intertwined nature by highlighting the need for a holistic approach and integration of soil aspects to all relevant policies.
You can find the roadmap available here, where it is also open for public review.
